a passion that is contagious

When you meet someone who is really passionate about something, their love for that thing is usually contagious. Today, in African dance class, we had a guy named Iuri Santos come in and teach us how to dance Capoeira de Angola. It is a dance that originated in Brazil during the time of oppression and slavery of the Africans in Brazil. I walked into the class unmotivated, tired, and uninterested. But Iuri, on the other hand, was so passionate about the dance and taught it with so much excitement and joy. By the end of the class, I found myself smiling and enjoying that same thing that he was passionate about.

It was not only the dance that he loved. He loved the instruments that brought the atmosphere of the dance. He loved singing the song that went along with the dance. He loved the people he shared the dance with. He loved the history of the dance. And most of all, he knew exactly WHY he was dancing.

I think it's easy to go through life sometimes without passion. When we find something that we love, we don't always embrace it and allow ourselves to fall passionately in love with it. But what we don't realize is that passion is powerful. When you discover something that you love, I hope that you don't forget about it. Instead, as Iuri did, I hope that you allow yourselves to be pursue it with all your heart. Pursue to learn all about it. Delight in it. Day dream about it. Teach it to others. Strive to make it their love as it is yours. A true passion is a passion that is contagious.
